When I arrived in the US at the age of 9 from Argentina, I can recall how hard it was to go to school everyday. We didn’t have much money, food and toys were hard to come by. Despite all this, our parents really tried their best to give us a good childhood. We created many loving memories and it made me really appreciate the small things in life.
My career has been in the medical field for over 23 years now but my college major was custom design. As a graduate of Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) I’ve had a passion for clothing and designing costumes. I find joy in being creative and designing costumes for kids parties or special events.
Nowadays I find joy in giving back to those who may be less fortunate. Whether its swiping my metrocard for someone in need on the subway or buying lunch for a young mother with a baby, I feel it is my calling to help others, especially children. I’ve been blessed with a son who is also learning how to help others and be a kind person. At 6 years old, my son Tristan is involved in church and accompanies me on toy drives or other volunteer events and has a natural desire to help people. My dream is to one day travel the world with Tristan and help children in poorer countries so they too can have better lives.
If we all learned to follow the message of love Jesus taught us, the world would be a much better place.
